There is just no end to this tragedy

Lawrence and Waddlington families still being exploited one year after death of daughters

It is not the first time that someone has tried to profit from someone else’s tragedy, but this is beyond the pale.

Next month will mark one year since two little girls were killed by a hit and run driver as they walked to a swim lesson at the University of Louisville.

Now there is word that someone has used their social security numbers to get a tax refund.

I hope when they are caught its not some bullshit fine from the IRS but serious federal prison time.

An example of Münchausen syndrome by proxy from the headlines

Mom Caught Putting Feces
In Child's IV

AUSTIN -
Investigators call it one of the most disturbing cases of child abuse in Travis County history. Emily Beth McDonald, 23, is accused of intentionally making her 3-year-old daughter sick. Investigators say hospital surveillance cameras recorded the abuse.

The victim is still at Dell Children's Medical Center but is in stable condition. Investigators say her mother admitted to rubbing feces into the toddler's feeding tube on multiple occasions at the hospital.

All the while, the mother kept a daily blog of her daughter's illness and attempts to recover. Austin police say every time McDonald's daughter started to improve, the child would get sick again.

"The medical records show that the child would get better and then feces would most likely be reintroduced," said Det. Marci Graham.

Some people just need killing.

Now Illinois corruption has gone nationwide!

Corruption in Illinois Costs Each Family $109 as Reform Stalls

Researchers at the University of Illinois-Chicago tallied the price of corruption to state taxpayers: at least $500 million a year. Based on prosecution costs and estimates that 5 percent of state contracts go to the politically connected, that equals $109 per family. The total is enough to pay the average salary for 8,214 public school teachers.

The university’s May 13 report found that during the past four decades, graft convictions of elected officials or their cronies averaged three per month. Illinois ranked 18th per capita for the number of convictions on federal public- corruption charges from 1998 through 2007, according to an analysis by USA Today.

Now the Illinois political machine is running the entire country.

A man was arrested Thursday morning after a device he was using to get more gas mileage out of his vehicle exploded Downtown.
The explosion was deemed an accident, however, it brought attention to Ben H. Buffalo who had warrants out for his arrest, said Sgt. Mark Robinson, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
He was booked into the Pima County jail on the warrants, Robinson said.
Buffalo, 48, reportedly got instructions on how to the build the hydrogen-creating device on the Internet.

Probably from the same website where that ignorant woman learned how to "cure" her sons cancer with vitamins and ionized water.

Living the good life on Medicare fraud

Medicare Fraudster Said He Could Rip Off Government Millions in Just Months

"It's faster and easier than selling drugs."
Fake medical equipment vendors bill the government for taxpayer dollars.

Those are the words of a convict, once a Miami drug dealer, who left the street life to participate in a scheme to make even bigger money: Medicare fraud.

And it worked. In seven years, he estimates he made about $8 million.

Lets nationalize all healthcare and see how much these guys came rip off from this already incompetent billing system.

Oh like you have never thought about it

Father uses dog collar to shock kids

A Salem man was arrested Tuesday for putting an electric dog collar on each of his four children and shocking them.

Todd Marcum, 41, said he did it "because he thought it was funny," Salem Police Lt. Dave Okada said.

The four children, ages 3, 6, 8 and 9, had been shocked while wearing the collar at least once, according to a statement from their father, Okada said.

Sounds like this guy was just a dick but I bet we have all seen kids in restaurants that we though could use one.

Wheels of Justice grind slowly in Kenielle Finch case

Prosecution awaiting DNA results in Kenielle Finch case

At Monday's pre-trial conference, prosecutor Ryane Conroy said they are still awaiting results of DNA evidence taken back in August.

"Actually, I can't comment specifically on how we would use the DNA until it's filed in the discovery, but that is something as I stated on the record that it was a shirt and some swabs from the vehicle," said Conroy.

The trial is set to begin on December 1.

I know this isn't CSI but waiting since August?

The sorry sack of shit should just plead guilty and get all this over with.

In the meantime: Driver accused of killing 2 girls sued

Update on VA funeral home abuse story

Army vet’s family sues Va. funeral home

FAIRFAX, Va. — The family of an Army veteran whose body was allegedly mishandled as it awaited burial at Arlington National Cemetery is suing a Fairfax County funeral home.

The lawsuits against National Funeral Home and parent company Service Corporation International of Houston seek $60 million in damages.

The family alleges that the body of retired Army Col. Andrew DeGraff was left in an unrefrigerated garage and “negligently defiled” as it sat in storage more than two months between his death in October and burial at Arlington in January.

The four lawsuits follow a report in The Washington Post that numerous bodies were neglected by the home, which was already on probation with state regulators.

An SCI spokeswoman said an investigation is under way.

Lessons learned from Columbine?

More on the Binghamton Massacre from NRO

Maybe or maybe not. I'm not going to Monday morning quarterback the response but I would like to know if the dept trains for the Active Shooter.

I would like to know if there is a Gun Free Zone sign on the front door of the place. Just another reason why citizens need to conceal carry. By the time the police get there it will likely be too late.

I'm glad the officer in the nursing home shooting didn't wait for backup because those patients were sitting ducks.

Whats with Louisiana and killing kids in clothes dryers?

Previously posted here in Jan was Harvey teen charged with killing baby; she put 5-month-old in dryer and turned it on

Now this hits the news: Louisiana jury finds woman guilty of killing 3-month old by putting him in clothes dryer

A Louisiana woman has been found guilty of killing her baby by putting him into a clothes dryer and turning the machine on.

A jury convicted Lakeisha Adams of second-degree murder Saturday for the death of her 3-month-old son, Jailand in December 2005. The local coroner's office said the child suffered blunt force trauma to his head as well as second and third degree burns on half of his body. The mother, who also had a 1-year-old child, was 18 at the time.

Police in the town of Bogalusa said Adams admitted putting the infant in the dryer and turning it on, but did not explain why.

Her lawyer asked jurors to find her not guilty or not guilty by reason of insanity. Adams is expected to be sentenced later this month

Hope they find a "special" cellmate for her.

Why class action suits are a waste of time

Florida driver's license settlement: $2.9M for lawyers, $1 for you

Facing a $3.5 billion deficit next year, Florida desperately needs all the money it can get. But millions more will disappear because the state has settled a lawsuit that affects millions of motorists.

The Legislature will spend $10.4 million to settle a class-action lawsuit over allegations that the state illegally sold drivers' personal information to marketing firms over a four-year period in violation of a federal law barring the practice. The state made $27 million each year on the deal, according to the lawsuit.

The settlement to drivers? $1.

The four South Florida motorists who sued will get $3,000 each, and five law firms that pursued the case for more than six years will divide $2.85 million in legal fees, which is separate from credits paid to consumers.

Looks like the state is making a nice profit of $98 million from breaking the law.

Bill proposed to end Kentuckys Early Release Program

Bill to end early inmate release would cost millions

As legislators scramble to plug a $456 million hole in this year's state budget, Senate Republicans are pushing a bill that would cost the Department of Corrections an additional $8.7 million through the next fiscal year.

Senate Bill 11, sponsored by Sen. Jack Westwood, R-Crescent Springs, would end the controversial early-release program that has let nearly 2,000 inmates out of prison early since May.
................
House Speaker Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg, said in a statement that "we would probably be more receptive to Sen. Westwood's proposal if he gave us an idea of how we could make up the savings to the corrections budget."

Sen Westwood needs support for this. $8.7 million to keep criminals in prison is nothing compared to the money our state government wastes each year on pet projects.

Get the cigarette and beer tax rolling that will help with the Medicaid shortfall. Next item is getting the expanded gaming bill passed so the horse parks can compete with the Indiana and Illinois river boat casinos.

Kenielle Finch who killed 5-year-old Claudia Wadlington and 4-year-old Riley Lawrence in a hit and run this summer in Louisville befitted from this program. I blogged about that a few months ago in How could the punishment ever fit the crime? Maybe if Stumbo needs help cutting the budget to find that $8.7 million he should put this picture on his desk.

More on the threat to the South

Mexican collapse? Drug wars worry some Americans

Indiscriminate kidnappings. Nearly daily beheadings. Gangs that mock and kill government agents.

This isn't Iraq or Pakistan. It's Mexico, which the U.S. government and a growing number of experts say is becoming one of the world's biggest security risks.
..........................
Retiring CIA chief Michael Hayden told reporters on Friday that that Mexico could rank alongside Iran as a challenge for Obama — perhaps a greater problem than Iraq.

The U.S. Justice Department said last month that Mexican gangs are the "biggest organized crime threat to the United States." National security adviser Stephen Hadley said last week that the worsening violence threatens Mexico's very democracy.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff recently told The New York Times he ordered additional border security plans to be drawn up this summer as kidnappings and killings spilled into the U.S.

Yep sounds like a vacation hot spot!

So if you want to ruin someones life

High Schoolers Accused Of Sending Naked Pictures To Each Other

Three teenage girls who allegedly sent nude or semi-nude cell phone pictures of themselves, and three male classmates in a Greensburg Salem High School who received them, are charged with child pornography.

So if you received the picture you are pretty much screwed even if they didn't go looking for it. Shit I hope some teen doesn't send it to a number by accident your life would be over.

Sucker

Leamington man loses $150,000 in Nigerian scam

A Leamington man has fallen prey to international scam artists who strung him along for more than a year with the promise of millions in cash, but ultimately bilked him and his family of $150,000.
.....................
“I never get calls anymore from my friends. You know, a bad reputation.”

Yeah probably something along the lines of "bah its that moron calling again".

Or maybe he made up the story cause he spent the money on booze and hookers?

Recon the bank BEFORE you rob it

Would-be robber leaves empty-handed after mistaking water office for bank

About 1 p.m. Tuesday, a man entered the office of Jessamine South Elkhorn Water District at 802 South Main Street — formerly a branch of Farmers Bank — showed a revolver and demanded money, Nicholasville police spokesman Scott Harvey said.

Harvey said an employee told the man, "We really don't have any money."

Harvey said the robber responded: "I know you have money. It's a bank." But he was told, "No, sir, it's not a bank any more."

"He looked around, realized it wasn't, and he left with nothing," Harvey said.

Witnesses told police that the robber was a heavyset black man in his mid-30s and was wearing a black parka with a hood lined with brown fur. Police were looking for a van that might have been involved in the attempted robbery.

What kind of parka? Was it genuine aardvark fur?
