I'm jealous he could find that much ammo

Police: Man said 30,000 bullets were for target practice

Keni Garcia told police he intended to use the 30,000 bullets they found in his car and home for target practice.

That is hard to believe, the prosecutor at Garcia's arraignment said, because if he were to fire a gun for eight hours a day, it would take weeks for him to use all of it.

Garcia, who allegedly bought thousands of rounds of ammunition and had 10,000 bullets in his car when he was stopped by police Thursday, was ordered held on $500,000 cash bail yesterday.

Garcia is charged with three counts of possession of a high-capacity firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and illegal storage of a firearm. His case was continued until June 12.

Thats what you get for living in a yankee nanny state.

Holland said at Garcia's arraignment that a "joint effort" by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and state police found that Garcia had previously bought 20,000 rounds of ammunition in New Hampshire.

Keeping track of ammo purchases are you?

Next a law to ban children from bathing with hair dryers

Senate votes to prohibit possession of machine guns by children

The state Senate voted overwhelmingly Thursday to ban the possession and use of machine guns by children under the age of 16.
The 31-2 vote comes in response to the accidental shooting death last October of an 8-year-old Connecticut boy, Christopher Bizilj, who was allowed to shoot an Uzi submachine gun at a Massachusetts gun fair. The boy lost control of the gun as it fired, shooting himself in the head.
Three people, including the police chief who organized the show, have since been indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter in Massachusetts.
But in Connecticut, no similar prohibition on the use of military-style machine guns existed under law.
Leaders of both parties in the legislature said such a prohibition was simple common sense, particularly since many of their constituents likely believed that it was already illegal to let children handle such weapons.
“It seems extraordinary that we would have to legislate something that in my opinion would be a matter of ordinary prudence,” said Sen. Andrew McDonald, D-Stamford, the co-chairman of the Judiciary Committee, which raised the bill.

Another gun free zone shooting

1 dead in Ill. church shooting

MARYVILLE, Ill. – A hospital spokeswoman in a community in Illinois says one person has arrived dead from a church where a shooting reportedly occurred.

Natalie Head of Anderson Hospital in Maryville says two other people transferred from First Maryville Baptist Church were wounded in the suburb of St. Louis, Mo.

Illinois State Police Lt. Scott Compton confirms that there was a shooting in a Maryville church. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch and KDSK-TV Channel 5 of St. Louis say the shooting occurred at the First Baptist Church in Maryville.

The Post-Dispatch also says the suspected attacker is in custody.

Maryville is about 20 miles northeast of St. Louis.

I guess if you want to go on a rampage its a pretty safe place to be the only one armed.

Kirsten Gillibrand, SandyTreadwell both Endorsed by NRA

“I come from a family of hunters, and preserving this strong upstate tradition is a priority of mine in Congress,” Gillibrand said. “I will continue to oppose legislation that will restrict the rights of responsible gun owners and I will continue to advocate for policies that will keep our rivers, land and air clean, so that future generations can enjoy hunting and wildlife in our region.”

Home invasions on the rise in KY?

I read the blog post over at the Bronzes blog about the 2 robbers who were killed in Louisville this week and saw it on the local news here as well. Maybe its just me but it would seem that in Louisville and Lexington both armed home invasions seem to be picking up. Its bad enough to be robbed but to go into a home where you know the owner is there is either brazen or they intend to kill the victim.

Kentucky Gun Control putting steel on target

Man killed in break-in, shooting

One man died and another was injured in a fight at an apartment complex near Shillito Park Wednesday night.

Police received a call at 10:41 about shots fired at Shillito Park Apartments, 3500 Beaver Place Road near Nicholasville Road at Man o' War Boulevard, said Lexington police Lt. Michele Young.

When paramedics arrived, they found a man shot and worked on him, Young said, but he eventually died.

The man who died was one of two men who broke into an apartment at the complex, Young said.

The suspects got into the apartment and shots were exchanged with the resident of the apartment, she said.

The resident was injured and taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital, she said.

The second suspect was last seen running toward Shillito Park, Young said.

Was it a fight or a break in? That first line is a bit misleading. If shots were exchanged sounds like the burglars was armed as well and breaking into an apartment with someone home. Does not sound like they had good intentions.

The right to arm bears

Dispute stalls bear hunt season

Wildlife officials want to bar hunters who use old-fashioned muzzleloading rifles or bows and arrows from taking more powerful firearms along as backup. Some state lawmakers think that violates a constitutional right to bear arms.

First off I have to say I fully support the right to arm bears. Second I think any found guilty of poaching a bear to sell the gall bladder to the Chinese should have his removed with a rusty spoon dipped in bear scat.

Kentucky also bars carrying a pistol while bow hunting for deer even if you have your CDWL (Concealed Deadly Weapons License). I have always disagreed with that because you never know what sort of drunken idiot you are likely to encounter on your own property. Having recently encountered several brazen coyotes this year deer hunting with my crossbow Fish and Wildlife will just have to deal it.

Kentucky does not seem to support suitable numbers of bears for a 2 day hunt. I would imagine that those in KY F&W undoubtedly know that but some office dwelling puke is pushing this hunt. I myself have no interest in hunting black bears in Kentucky or anywhere else unless the numbers get substantially better than current levels.

I have a friend who paid for a Canada bear hunt and came back with a pitiful story of the hunt. The guide set him up on a small hill and told him to watch a stump in the clearing below around daybreak. Sure enough a black bear came out at daybreak and he shot and killed it. When he got brave enough to venture down the hill he found a hollow stump filled with Twinkies. I'm surprised the bear wasn't wearing a name collar.

AP news story as usual based on nothing

AP Enterprise: Deaths loom over self-defense laws

An Associated Press review found a growing number of cases but no clear trend yet in how the law is applied or how cases will be resolved in court.

Well maybe they should wait for a trend before doing a non story stringing together unrelated shootings.

Self defense should not be that complicated. If you are in fear of your life or protecting the life of another its pretty straight forward. Laws requiring you to retreat are asinine.

The guy shooting someone coming out of his neighbors house was wrong and that's very dangerous. I'm glad it wasn't the neighbors kids practicing a fire evacuation plan.

Someone snatching a case of beer and running out of the store is a no brainer as well. The only reason the clerks life was in danger at the time of the shooting was because he chased the guy.

Castle doctrine laws are need to prevent home owners from being prosecuted for protecting themselves. Like this post I made back back when the law was passed in Kentucky about a paraplegic indicted for shooting an intruder.

St. Louis alderman says pack some heat

St. Louis Alderman Quincy Troupe calls on residents to carry handguns for safety

ST. LOUIS — Alderman Charles Quincy Troupe's neighborhood has seen nine homicides in 10 months this year, more than all but one other section of the city.

With gunplay wreaking havoc on his ward, Troupe thinks he has found an answer: citizens arming themselves.

The alderman is pleading with constituents to get guns of their own — and learn how to use them. Troupe, who represents a swatch of north St. Louis, is encouraging residents to apply for concealed weapons permits so they can start carrying a firearm.

Criminals have shown they would rather flee than engage and are more likely to target a house or person they consider a soft target.

Of course not everyone agrees:

Police Chief Dan Isom, who took office in October. Though Isom says he "can understand Alderman Troupe's frustration," citizens arming themselves is "not something I necessarily support."

"I don't really want a society where everyone in the city of St. Louis is carrying a gun," Isom said. "That, I don't think, is a recipe for a less violent community."

Fellow Alderman Lyda Krewson is more direct in her criticism. She calls Troupe's concealed weapons push "wacky" and "counterproductive."

Krewson, whose then-husband was shot and killed in front of their Central West End home 13 years ago, was one of the state's leading critics of the 2003 concealed weapons law.

"The more guns that we have on the streets in the city of St. Louis — or anywhere for that matter — the more guns are going to be stolen, and are going to fall into the wrong hands," Krewson said.

Big surprise the chief doesn't want the sheep armed meanwhile Krewson is just a loon. Krewson thinks because citizens get their conceal carry criminals will have more gun to steal? For fucks sake...

Mean while the mayor has the answer:

Mayor Francis Slay wrote in his blog Tuesday that some of the most violent crimes in Troupe's ward are committed with guns stolen from law-abiding citizens.

He said Troupe could do more good urging residents to cooperate with investigating police officers, lending support for activities for children, and lobbying legislators to increase funding for jobs training and economic development.

Yeah if only criminals/crackheads had a job they wouldn't be a lazy sack of shit who would rather steal than work. Like a politician or mayor?

Gun safety and you

Police Chief Who Shot Himself Talks Gun Safety

"I was a firearms instructor, SWAT team....it was that familiarity that got me in trouble."

Chief Greg Schwarber says Friday morning he took his daughter to the shooting range to teach her how to safely fire a weapon. A few hours later the veteran policeman was living that lesson when he went home to clean his weapon - a Glock 45.

"I had a pile of bullets and the magazine which I put on the side table...and as I did, I saw the TV controller and grabbed that...first mistake."

Chief Schwarber says he was distracted and forgot a crucial step to disassembling the Glock.

You think? Like maybe making sure there was not a round chambered? Not a fan of Glock but at least he didn't blame the gun and owned up to his fuck up. I hope the Chief spends some time in the local schools talking gun safety now after he is surely the talk of the town.

In a civilized society only the police would have guns because they are properly trained and responsible.

Like this guy who I hear is somehow still employed by the DEA?

Angry Mumbai Wants Answers, Changes

Angry Mumbai Wants Answers, Changes

The candlelight procession that drew hundreds of Mumbai residents out onto Marine Drive Sunday was more than just a symbolic gesture of solidarity with those who had died or lost loved ones in the three-day terror attack. The marchers were expressing their defiance in the face of those who had come to kill, but also their anger at the authorities for failing to protect their city, and at leaders seeking political advantage from the tragedy.

You failed to protect yourselves. Maybe you should demand that right?

It could happen here?

I have seen several articles written about the terrorist attacks in India where the writer has said "It could happen here." Seems to be a trend I see that these papers tend to be in Kalifornia or a yankee state with unarmed citizenry. You are right it could happen here and probably will in state with tight gun controls, no concealed weapon licenses, and most likely a gun free zone.

Can you really see a soft target in the south where those nimrods would not have faced a hail of bullets from the locals? I was amazed by the pictures of the terrorists walking around in the open. I really doubt American cops would show the restraint of their Indian counterparts.

Lastly one thing that would happen here is CNN would gladly relay what the cops were doing to the terrorists on the inside watching tv. I remember watching CNNI the other night when they were showing the Indian military and police moving in and wondering why they had not cut the power to the building.

North Dakota health officials lead bullet junk science

Lead bullets under fire

LANDER -- People in Wyoming and North Dakota received mixed messages this week about eating animals killed with lead bullets.

North Dakota health officials recommended on Thursday that pregnant women and young children avoid eating meat from wild game that was shot with lead ammunition.

But an official with the Wyoming Department of Health said the Cowboy State will not be issuing the same warning to its residents, because state epidemiologists believe the effects are "very unlikely to be clinically significant."

The lead levels of children under 6 in the study were an average of just 0.88, the Foundation added, which is less than half the national average: "Children over 6 had even lower lead levels. The CDC's level of concern for lead in children is 10."

Officials in North Dakota and other states have warned about eating venison killed with lead ammunition since the spring, when a physician conducting tests using a CT scanner found lead in samples of donated deer meat.

The findings led North Dakota's health department to order food pantries to throw out donated venison. Some groups that organize venison donations have called such actions premature and unsupported by science.

So people who don't have enough food cannot eat the deer even though their lead levels would still be below the national average?

You don't hunt deer with pellets so I fail to see the problem here. A high powered rifle in and out through the chest cavity, heart and lungs. Unless you are going to try to eat deer ribs or make meatloaf with the heart please explain how the hams, backstrap, tenderloin and shoulders would be touched?

I can see how supported by this sort of nonsense from the CDC the gun grabbers will try to go after the ammunition next. Watch for it because its coming.

Begun the war against our Bill of Rights has

Beginning with the first amendment:

Schumer on Fox: Fairness Doctrine ‘fair and balanced’

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Tuesday defended the so-called Fairness Doctrine in an interview on Fox News, saying, “I think we should all be fair and balanced, don’t you?”

In 2007, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), a close ally of Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) told The Hill, “It’s time to reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine. I have this old-fashioned attitude that when Americans hear both sides of the story, they’re in a better position to make a decision.”

The Brady nutbunch didn't even wait for Obama to claim victory before declaring:

Obama Victory Means ‘Stronger Support for Sensible Gun Laws’

The strong Election Day showing for Democrats signals stronger support for “sensible gun laws” in this country and a “significant setback” for the National Rifle Association, a gun control group said Tuesday night.

The Brady Campaign issued a statement even before Sen. Barack Obama was declared the winner, saying the political environment is better than it’s been in years for “progress on gun violence prevention.

"America should take notice that reasonable policies on guns are carrying the day," said Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign, which endorsed the Obama-Biden ticket.

The Brady Campaign says Obama “consistently supported common sense gun laws in the U.S. Senate and in the Illinois State Senate. Senator Biden not only has supported, but also has been a leader for strong gun laws throughout his career in the U.S. Senate.”
