BURBANK -- Five teenagers were arrested Saturday night on felony charges of shining a laser at a law enforcement aircraft, according to Burbank police.
The teens, ages 13 to 16 could be sentenced to up to three years in prison and have to pay a $2,000 fine if convicted.
Investigators say police were on an aerial patrol Saturday night around 9L30 p.m. when their helicopter was hit by a green laser beam. Officers on the ground tracked down a group of teens with a hand-held laser.
Pointing a laser at an aircraft is dangerous because it could temporarily blind the flight crew, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Temporarily my ass the green ones are high powered enough it could cause permanent retina damage.
