Father, son soldiers get simultaneous Silver Stars

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. — Two generations of a family of soldiers received Silver Stars during simultaneous ceremonies at Fort Campbell and a U.S. base in Afghanistan.

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Jonathan Harris and his father Gary, a retired U.S. Army staff sergeant, were given the military’s third-highest decoration for valor today for their courageous action in Afghanistan and Vietnam.

The elder Harris was mailed his award in 1969, but never received a ceremony, so when his son was nominated for the award, the Army decided to conduct two ceremonies linked by video teleconference.

Outstanding!
